Dear Senator/Central Area
My name is _______________, I am emailing you as a Member of Democrats for the Community. Our diverse group worked together to get 12 amazing candidates elected as 79th Assembly District Delegates! I am writing you in reference to a very important issue to our entire community and all San Diego Democrats. We understand the San Diego County Democratic Party is proposing to vote to endorse only one candidate for the race for County Supervisor, this coming AUGUST 28th at its Central Area Committee.
We have four of the most qualified and diverse candidates for County Supervisor in over 20 years. We should be proud of this! This diverse slate reflects the core of our party, including both men and women, as well as members of the African American & Latino communities. Rushing through a process that would exclude so many qualified candidates to the benefit of just one is completely unnecessary and divisive. This would only serve to discriminate against the other qualified candidates and the communities they represent. The optics of exclusion to the rest of San Diego Democrats is disturbing.
Moreover, Democrats just approved measures K & L. overwhelmingly! These hard won measures finally made our elections truly fair by giving more San Diegans the opportunity to participate. We cannot have lesser & different standards when it comes our own internal election processes. Everyone is looking to you as Party Leaders and elected officials to fulfill the true intent of all Democrats – Let everyone vote! As evidence by recent local and national elections, we cannot know how an election will unfold, so you should not pre-judge. You should promote a process that provides allows voters to fully vet all candidates. And all candidates need the opportunity to make their case to as many voters as possible in the coming months. This is a fundamental matter of free speech. The new chair of our California Party agrees, recently saying;
“This has been the most inclusive process in decades, and we have selected the most diverse set of appointments in CDP history,” " I am particularly proud that we appointed a majority of women and people of color because everyone should have a seat at the table in the California Democratic Party.” - CHAIR CDP
Let’s not go backwards in San Diego. Please stand up and be counted. Stand up for our entire party – not just for those in the room. Lend your voice, your influence and use your vote to demand a fair and open process. In this critical election, no one person is more entitled than others, and no one is less deserving of our respect and review. Working together, Democrats can and will win this seat for County Supervisor. Vote to keep our party together, please vote for No Endorsement at the Central Area Committee.
In Solidarity with Democrats,
